Meditation House Events
These events are regularly scheduled and hosted by Lisa and Buddy Wilson here at Meditation House.
Group Meditations
- Please join us in sharing the vibrations of peace and calmness that come from sitting in stillness with spiritual friends in this sacred space. Even if you've never sat to meditate before, you are welcome to join us.
- If you already have a meditation practice you're comfortable with - do that! For those who are interested, we may also take the first few minutes each week to go over some simple yoga meditation techniques to get us started. We'll still have plenty of time to practice our own stillness. For reference, we'll be working with the meditation techniques outlined in Jyotish Novak's easy-to-read and easy-to-understand guide to meditation, How to Meditate. We have several copies of the book to share or you can purchase a copy from us.
- Our meditations typically start with a short inspirational reading and a chant to help us transition into silence. We end with an affirmation and healing prayers. We usually do a few simple yogic exercises before we sit down to relax the body and make it easier to sit still. Participate however you wish. Donations are welcome but these sessions are always free. It's also perfectly fine to just show up. If you sign up for the mailing list (below) we can send you a reminder or let you know if a session has to be cancelled.
- The next regular group meditation is scheduled for: > Monday December 22nd from 5:30-6:30pm
- (There will not be a group meditation on December 15th so interior finishing and painting can be completed that week)
- These dates are also currently planned:
- > Monday December 29th
- > Monday January 5th
- > Monday January 12th
Community Meals
Getting together with others along the path and sharing food is one of the simplest ways to feel God's presence. We've gotten into the practice of having a light meal together after our weekly Group Meditations, sharing food in an extended family style.
We prepare a vegetarian entree to serve as the center of the meal and others can bring sides and accompaniments if they wish. We seem to always have plenty of food and there is no obligation to bring anything so no pressure! We also have disposable containers so you can take leftovers home.
Our next community meal is scheduled for:
> Monday December 22nd at 6:30pm (after Group Meditation)
(There will not be a community meal on December 15th so interior finishing and painting can be completed that week)
These dates are also currently planned:
> Monday December 29th
> Monday January 5th
> Monday January 12th
Sunday Evening Meditation
Rather than meeting in the morning for a traditional Sunday Service, we're coming together at 6:30pm in the evening to close out the weekend with a Fire Ceremony and a silent meditation. There's nothing to prepare for, nothing to pay any particular attention to and nothing to worry about. Just show up, chant some mantras and soak up some silence.
Contact us to get on our mailing list and we'll send you a reminder or let you know if we have to cancel for some reason.
We plan to start Sunday Evening Meditations up again in January.
Tibetan Singing Bowl Meditations
Metal singing bowls have been used in healing and meditation for centuries. The resonating, complex vibrations from these traditional seven-metal bowls produce natural states of deep relaxation and mental clarity.
If you've enjoyed a sound bath or wonder why people love them, give this a try. We follow the gentle practices taught to us by Atma Buti founder Suren Shrestha from Nepal.
Our sessions last about an hour and include relaxation, healing prayers and chakra balancing protocols. We have yoga mats and blankets for lying down or we have chairs and cushions if you prefer.
Donations are welcome but these sessions are always free. You do not need to sign up but feel free to let us know you're coming. This helps us arrange the space for the expected number of people.
Our next Singing Bowl Meditation is scheduled for:
> Saturday January 10th from 6:00 - 7:00pm
Kirtans (Chanting)
Chanting sacred songs is a wonderfully effective way to deepen your devotion and energize your meditation practice. We hosted our first kirtan on January 1st of this year and we're trying to put one on the calendar every month now.
The chants are simple to sing and the music is easy to play. We have a temple harmonium and a small sound system. Whether you want to chant along with us or help us provide the music, there is something for you here.
We will start scheduling a monthly kirtan again starting in January (maybe sooner). Please keep an eye out for actual dates and times.
Kids and Family Yoga
- Yoga is not just for grown-ups. We've been teaching children's yoga for many years and will be offering drop-in yoga classes that are suitable for both children and adults. Sessions start with movement and include pranayama, affirmations, asana, meditation, visualization and plenty of games and activities. You don't have to bring kids either. The idea is mainly just to be together and have fun.
Sessions are led by Buddy & Lisa. Donations are welcome but classes are free and open to anyone who is sincerely interested. You do not need to sign up but feel free to let us know you're coming. This helps us arrange the space for the expected number of people. Also, if you sign up for the mailing list (below) we can send you a reminder or let you know if a session has to be cancelled.
